PostSubject: My characters (Help request topic)   Mon Aug 08, 2011 10:01 pm

I feel like i do really bad against flowcharts and noob turtles (Turtles that down know they turtling and hold up back to jump and charge, idk how to get to them -_-) with gouki... He is the type to rush the opponent down and get in good combos, I have some of his 1 framers down but i don't risk them online, and I feel like he's so bad when I lose to flowcharts cause when I'm rushing I try to keep the frame advantage but I keep getting DPed.I even got so salty I removed a guy off my list cause that's all he does + random ultras... Is there any way to get past this?

Ibuki has really nice combos, but it's hard to get in with her.. Most people just keep blocking and i feel like i have to jump to get in, then i get punished, I was thinking about switching to viper cause she's different from all the other characters I play and once you learn her it's really easy to get combos in..

I don't want to drop Gouki cause then all the work I put in him goes to waste, and I always want to get my gouki to be really good since tokido is like my favorite player..

Any advice/tips you guys can give?

I guess one piece of advice would be to keep it simple against those types of players. There's no need to make it harder on yourself trying to do 1 framers against flowcharts. As for turtlers, be patient and wait for an opportunity to hit them...They WILL slip up eventually and get hit. Akuma is a more of a technical shoto but you can't just rush in with him, you have to know when to go on the offensive. Same info goes for Ibuki, but Mince knows more about her than I do.

I have a similar problem. I've gotten used to a higher level of play from yall and my local scene. So... random shit catches me off guard... way off guard.

Turtlers. Focus absorb their projectiles, demon kick over em (if you're close enough chance not kicking for that knockdown... your Akuma when I'm on knockdown or blockstun has me scared of that kara demon), then get in for some mix ups. Train em to block your overhead. Once that is done, hit low. Akuma has amazing damage output from a single cr.lk. If they have a tendancy to reversal mash, throw a slow poke you can FADC backdash out of and punish their likely heavy recovery. There's alot you can do, and it'll come down to experience. Don't be afraid to lose while trying new things.

Akuma's not so much rushdown... as he is an opportunist. That said, he has lots of tools to create opportunities, either by weird aerial zoning (which when played right leads to untechable knockdowns), or merely the threat of it. Akuma seems like water to me. But, I play any character I like as if they were water. Waves are counter pokes that lead to the tide of your combos coming in.

Flow charts. You have a basic idea of what they are going to do. You have enough experience to capitalize on this. You should know when your openings are based on their style of flowcharting. Beating a flowchart is simply finding a flaw in their execution or recovery.

Never drop a character just cause fights don't seem to be going your way. Trust me, as Fuerte, things never seem to be going my way lol

Here are a few things you can do as Akuma against runaways. One, don't chase them down. You can throw fireballs their way to force them to block, jump over, or focus through them. This will have them get out of their routine just a bit to throw them off balance. This also helps you build meter. Also, throw some air fireballs to throw them even more off balance. Move forward a bit each time to corner them. Once they are in the corner, just wait a few character spaces away and just wait for them to do something and punish. It's fun trolling people when you're just sitting there in one spot and they are trapped in the corner.

As Ibuki, it's a bit difficult to approach a lot of characters. I don't know how I get by cause I jump a lot with her (which is a big no-no but I still do it lol). Again, for the same scenario, don't just chase them down. Build meter with Raida. To get through fireballs, either jump straight up over them, slide under them with df+mk (practice timing for this), f+mk (practice timing for this), or do a LK Hien to hop over them and build meter (which is a great decision). You can also throw Kunai from afar to see if you can try to chip them. Once you have meter, use your reactions to use EX Neckbreaker to go through them and knock them down (if it's Gouken and you see him about to use a fireball, just use HP Neckbreaker, his fireball is high, same with Sagat's punch fireballs).

Check out some youtube videos of pro players using them and you'll see how they react. Or fight me and I'll see what I can do lol

Ok, I'm just not gonna deal with flowcharts cause it causes me to change my fighting style, and no good players do things like that so there will be no point in learning the matchup. As for turtlers, I'll prob fight majik's Guile to get better against them.

lol It's good to learn all type of match ups though. You'll never know when you'll be facing them in a tournament or so.

I feel like dropping my subs and gouki and just sticking with adon, I'm gonna find a new sub though. Viper seems really cool, she's hard to use, and I like her combos.. Maybe I'll pick her up..

I guess master Adon first before moving on to another character. That way you know every in and out with him.

Yea I'm just gonna stick to the characters I'm comfortable with and have fun with. I feel trapped with gouki and all my other characters.. I even feel good with viper when I play for some reason... I do like Yun but he's overrated.. I need help finding a sub today if anyone is up for it.
