Cover system: where in shooters you "hope" to be in cover while also shooting, Gears actually has a true cover system.
Cool Weapons: It has the standard weaponry like other shooters but has a sick twist cause it focuses more on hardcore, brutal deaths. Every weapon has something that will completely decimate the opposition. I mean c'mon! The Lancer has been named one of the greatest weapons in gaming history!
Executions: Every weapon has a different kill animation when you walk up to a downed enemy. My favorite is ripping off an arm and beating them to a pulp with it. Gruesome!
Graphics: Using the Unreal Engine, the graphics are far superior to any of the other standard graphics games come in (especially shooters)
Multiplayer: Aside from the typical Team Deathmatch (which Gears has 3 different versions of) it has other much cooler modes:
- Capture the Leader is like Capture the Flag but the leader is an actual player and you want to keep him safe and alive (he fights back unlike a flag on a pole)
- Annex/King of the Hill is like Headquarters in COD but has 3x the amount of spots to choose from, and these spots have power weapons
- Wingman is 4 teams of 2 battling it out to survive (you better hope you have a good team mate!)
Unlike other shooters, it's only 5v5. No overcrowding of the maps with dozens of people.
Buddy System: Unless you are completely blown apart, you will be downed if shot too much from the assault rifle-esque guns. Your team mate can come up to you and revive you, putting you back into the fray. Beware, after the 3rd down, you're done and have to respawn.
Maps are smaller - Makes it easy to quickly jump back into the fray. No waiting 30 seconds to find someone. You're always fighting and the fire fights are always intense.
No Camping - Cause the maps are smaller, you can't camp. You can try but you will be destroyed. Camping is for losers anyway who are afraid to die. Leave behind your kill streak and your worry of losing it. This is Gears, death is certain.
Skill is required for killing - No stupid n00b tubes, no cheap perks, no cheap kill streaks to help attain kills, no relying on abilities...yes, all games takes skill but this is all by the weapon you hold and how well you use it.
HORDE!!! The biggest thing to come to shooters and Gears started it off. Waves and waves of enemies comes down on you trying to annihilate your existence. Every shooter copied Gears the moment Epic released it in Gears 2 and it's STILL far superior to all those other cop outs and FAR more difficult. Which leads into...
BEAST!!! Just like Horde mode but instead of trying to survive the waves and waves of monsters...you ARE the monsters! Destroy those foolish humans trying to last against your might!
A killer story. Unlike other shooters who most people don't truly care for, Gears has an epic (no pun intended) story line that is awesome.
And it's not a typical FPS! This is over the shoulder and is glorious. Completely stands out from other shooters.
